על מדיקליזציה של ההריון והלידה
היום במרכז הרפואי ׳שערי צדק׳, דיברנו עם קורס מיילדות 2018 על מדיקליזציה של ההריון והלידה. תהליכים אלו הפכו בהדרגה, במאתיים השנים האחרונות, מחלק טבעי של מחזור החיים, לטוב ולרע - ל'אירועים רפואיים'. הלידה העתיקה את מקומה מן הבית אל בית החולים, ורופאים הציעו מרשמים מדעיים להסדרת כל פרט ופרט בטיפול בתינוק. מרגש בכל פעם מחדש לראות עד כמה חשוב לבסס פרקטיקות מיילדותית על תשתית של ידע רחב והבנה של דיכוי נשים, הדרת נשים והתעוררות התנועה לזכויות האישה. 35 מיילדות לעתיד שמכירות את השוני בין הגל הראשון של הפמיניזם, פמיניזם ליברלי של שנות ה-60 ופמיניזם רדיקלי. 35 מיילדות לעתיד שמבינות את ההבדל בין ״מודל המיילדּות" שמתייחס אל היריון ואל לידה כאל תהליכים טבעיים–נורמליים בדרך כלל, לעומת המודל הרפואי מתמקד בפתולוגיה שבלידה. תודה לד"ר פנינה מור על ההזמנה להרצות על מגדר בפני משתלמות קורס מיילדות. יממה אחרי שלמעלה ממיליון נשים צעדו ברחבי העולם במחאה נגד שנה של עוולות תחת דונלד טראמפ, חשוב להזכיר לעצמנו שמיילדות הן סוכנות של שינוי, וש"הפמיניזם איננו עוסק בחיזוק של נשים. נשים היו חזקות מאז ומתמיד. הפמיניזם עוסק בשינוי האופן שבו העולם תופס את העוצמה הזו" (ג' ד' אנדרסון)
Today, at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center, we talked with the class of the 2018 Midwifery course about the medicalization of pregnancy and childbirth. These natural occurrences in the cycle of life, have become, through the course of the last 200 years, for better and worse, "Medical Events". Childbirth has relocated from the home to the hospital, and doctors have offered medical prescriptions for every stage of pregnancy and childcare. I find it fascinating to discover together, every time, the importance of structuring Midwifery Practices on the backbone of deep knowledge and an understanding of the oppression of women, their disenfranchisement and the revival of the fight for women's rights. 35 future midwives who know the difference between the first wave of feminism, the liberal feminism of the 1960's and radical feminism. 35 future midwives who understand the difference between the Midwifery Model that treats childbirth as a normal and natural event, and the Medical Model, where doctors focus on the pathology of childbirth. Thanks to Dr. Pnina Mor's invitation to talk to the class of 2018 about gender we were able to have this discussion. 24 hours after a million women marched to protest a year under Donald Trump's oppression, we remind ourselves that Midwives are Agents of Change, and that "Feminism isn't about making women strong.
